Have you ever felt all alone and afraid when you found yourself in a tough situation? It’s natural for us to feel afraid when we’re faced with trouble too big to handle by ourselves. Fortunately, there’s supernatural help available Who we can rely on, and this source of help will always be nearby when we need Him. God loves us very much, and He wants us to know that He’s on our side and wants us to win in life.
There’s an important lesson about this in the Old Testament story of David and Goliath. Young David didn’t let fear incapacitate him when faced with a giant who was intent on killing him. Instead, he stepped out in faith, knowing his God was on his side. The result was nothing short of a miracle (1 Samuel 17:1-51).
Life can be discouraging, and sometimes problems can materialize unexpectedly, like a brick wall—or a giant—blocking our way. We can’t possibly hope to prevail against something so big on our own. But if we trust God to handle the issue when we don’t know what to do, the thing that looks hopeless turns into a win-win situation. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14,NIV).
Whenever we are faced with a giant in our life, we can take comfort in knowing that God is alwaysstronger than any adversary or foe we face. It doesn’t matter what it feels like, looks like, or sounds like. When we ask Him for His help, He’ll never say no. “When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; this I know, because God is for me. In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 56:9, 11, NKJV). When He gets involved, any type of evil that has set itself up against us as our enemy will surely fall.
We know this because God envisions good things for us, not evil or harmful things. He has a perfect plan for our life. When we open a dialogue with Him through prayer, and keep that dialogue open, we begin to see that plan materialize. “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen” (Jeremiah 29:11, 12, MSG).
We’ll all undoubtedly face adversity in life, but we have the promise that it won’t overcome us. Regardless of what we see around us, we have divine protection. “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee” (Isaiah 43:2). He will uphold us.
God never changes, never wavers, and never turns back. This is precisely why we find firm footing when we stand on His promises. The world will try to tell us it’s hopeless, that we’ve lost the fight, but His Word says the exact opposite. “What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?]” (Romans 8:31, AMP). God is bigger!
